I'm like 62% into the story and am getting bored with the characters and bored with the story. Not much has happened so far. Amelia bought a building for a good purpose. The Hero has only contributed pages and pages of self-talk about the heroine, Amelia. You know, the angst and torture of lustfull thoughts and dreams he's having every moment of the day and night. Then the fighting of those thoughts when in her presence. I also felt let down that the author removed several characters that I really enjoyed in the first book. Not only the 2 main leads from that book but also Raphe's valet and secretary. In the first story these characters really added to the fun mix of personalities. Maybe they'll show up more further in the book. So far the only thing happening are the H and h going to look at the building, attending a ball, then gazing at each other. One moment in raptures - the next in misery. Will finish. The best line in the book so far, Amelia looks at the duke and says, "you're an ass".

The formula of The Duke of Her Desire was great brother’s best friend, a heroine who wants to marry for love, a forbidden aspect, and a nefarious plot. However, the execution left a lot to be imagined. Reading The Duke of Her Desire felt like reading books I’ve already read in the past.

Both the hero and the heroine were underdeveloped. Throughout the story, I tried to get myself attached to them. I wanted to like them. Of course, wanting to like them wasn’t enough. Thomas and Amelia failed to have that “spark” that makes me invested in two characters’ love story. Often, I found myself more interested in the side characters like Amelia’s sister, Juliette.

Even during the “heightened” moments of drama when Amelia was in danger, I was easily pulled out of the story. It lacked the “couldn’t put it down” factor that I always look for in Romance.

Overall, The Duke of Her Desire isn’t a bad story; It just failed to enchant me.
I just enjoy a Sophie Barnes novel.

This is a tale of abandoned aristocrats who are restored to their station after formative years in a London slum. Sexually explicit.
All in all, a pretty satisfying book. I was surprised it took so long for the characters to realize there was sabotage with Lady Amelia's project. I liked both the hero and heroine. Other books that I have read by Sophie Barnes were a bit more funny and rank a little higher than this one, but it is a satisfying read. It ends well, and the characters are likable.
Amelia’s positioning in society-past and current-causes her to doubt her worth as the wife of a peer, yet it also pushes her to provide for children who live in slums where she used to. Thomas is a peer who is pushing for peers who have children out of wedlock to acknowledge them, educate them, and recognize them as proper heirs if they wish. As time moves forward and Amelia buys a house to become a school, someone tries to sabotage her plans through fire, accident, and knifing. A very good novel!
I love regency romances! I’ve read many of this author’s books and liked most, even loved some. This book was a disappointment. I liked the first book in the series and was looking forward to Raphe’s sisters’ stories. The premise of this book was bland - Duke asks friend, also a Duke, to look after his sister while he’s on his honeymoon. The heroine, Lady Amelia, was not very compelling - pretty and kind but immature and inconsistent. The hero, Thomas, Duke of Coventry, was about the same - handsome and aristocratic but immature and inconsistent. They had no chemistry and absolutely no sizzle. The storyline was simple and predictable, with distractingly unbelievable plot points. Overall, disappointing.
