In the Shadow of the Dragon King eBook J Keller Ford

This is a cleverly crafted tale of how our world collides with the fantasy world of Fallhollow where an evil dragon threatens the King of Gildore and his knights. I really enjoyed the mix of high fantasy and contemporary fantasy. We had one protagonist, Eric, who was a squire in Fallhollow who introduced us to his world in a way that made it easy to grasp. The other protagonist, David, was a regular teenager in our world, but his destiny is tied to Fallhollow.

The story develops with lots of twists and turns and epic journeys for all. The characters suck you and the plotting keeps you turning pages into the night. So much happened in this story--secrets, betrayals, honor, and love abound.

The author did a terrific job creating characters that a reader can root for. And the villains were all terribly unlikable--as they should be! If you enjoy stories with adventure, danger, and fantasy--this one is for you!

In the Shadow of the Dragon King eBook J Keller Ford Reviews

The author is my friend and we are so proud of her to get her book published... if you love dragons you will love this book...she worked so hard to become a writer and has made it... great book.
I loved the beginning of the book, but the end felt really hard to get through. There were a lot of characters and a lot of plot that was hard to keep up with and form together to make everything make sense. Maybe that's just me. Also, I wasn't really a fan of either of the two main characters, David and Eric. But onward to the next. Hopefully some things get ironed out!
I love this book! I just don't like it, I love it! I could go one for hours about how in-depth this book is. It was truly a deep fantasy ride filled with beautiful descriptions! I fell in love with David, was awed by Slavandria(Sp?) and Charlotte was my kind of heroine, Eric however, needed a good swift kick in the but. There were dragons, intrigue, a man named Trog, missing royalty, a woman with light purple hair. A definite must read!
I read a lot of fantasy, and it's always nice to become engrossed in a magical new world. This one didn't disappoint. I completely fell for Fallhollow.

The characters were three-dimensional and full of life, and the integration of two worlds was different from what I'm used to reading. There were twists to keep things exciting, and the description was just enough without the flowery, "purple prose" some authors resort to using--which can be poetic but often times unnecessary and distracting. I'm very interested in what happens in the books to follow.
The characters are very true-to-life -- they practically jump off the pages. I don't quite get the David/Charlotte relationship. Hopefully that (as well as a couple of other mysteries) will be clarified in the next installment of the trilogy. The action begins almost immediately and continues throughout. I might wish for a little more backgroung detail and the constant changing of viewpoint between David and Eric is a little disconcerting but all in all,a very captivating book. I can't wait for the next part of the trilogy.
I typically don't read dragon books, so it was a pleasant surprise when I liked this one sooo much! The way Ford switches POV from David in 'our' modern day world to Eric in the magical realm of Fallhallow kept the plot moving along at a nice pace. I enjoyed the dynamic of David and Eric with their really big egos. And of course, the love interest with Charlotte added to the fun. If you're a fan of Harry Potter, LOTR, and the Hobbit, then you'll enjoy this fresh read as much as I did!
3.5 on the blog.
This is a solid story. The fact that two of the main characters are from modern times makes this a perfect book for Contemporary YA lovers to test drive some Fantasy. I liked that there weren't too many battle scenes and people also used their brains to solve problems and not just swords. I also loved that the author added the way things smelled in general, not just the good aromas. Ha ha. So many writers forget how odors can round out a setting. She is also very skilled at describing dragon movement and its affect on the surrounding environment. I am looking forward to reading the sequel.
